Gro Prøis Tynning

Gro was born in 1966 as the youngest of the three daughters of Torstein Tynning and Solveig Prøis Tynning, and grew up at Søndre Valler in the years when her father commuted to Parliament. She was eighteen when he stepped down in 1985, and so has his entire parliamentary career as her childhood. She describes it herself: 'I grew up in a political home. Perhaps the most important thing I learned was to think across party lines.'

She earned a Cand.paed. (Master's) in Education at the University of Oslo and later supplemented it with HR Analytics at the University of South-Eastern Norway. Her working life has moved through personnel and leadership: ten years as Senior HR Consultant at DNB, Section Manager at NAV, Head of HR at OCH Ortopedi, HR Manager at Jungheinrich Norway, and HR Director at the Nursing Home Agency in the City of Oslo, one of Norway's largest municipal agencies. Since 2025 she has been Divisional Director for Corporate Governance at the Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi).

Gro lives in Oslo and writes regularly about leadership, collaboration and working life. A recurring theme is teams before stars and execution before new ideas: 'We are not short of ideas. We are not short of resources. What we lack is the ability to carry more out together.' In this, she is the one in her generation who most clearly continues the family tradition of public service, from great-grandfather Isak on the Brekke municipal council via grandfather Lasse and father Torstein.

Gro is the mother of Syver and Sara Andersen.
