    1563

    Our holding comes into being

Barbro Lassesdatter, sister of the farmer Johannes Lasseson, has a parcel of the Tynning farm separated out. It later becomes holding no. 3, where Isak and Brita lived and Lasse was born.

The Family Grows

One choice that changed everything

When Lasse Tynning left Brekke and settled in Porsgrunn, it was not only he who moved — it was the future of the whole family that was redirected.

Together with Aashild Haugland he built a new home at Søndre Valler. Here grew up the three children who would give the family three very different directions, and an entirely new branch of the family took shape.

Lasse & Aashild

Founders of the modern family

From life in Brekke to a new home at Søndre Valler — the journey that became the beginning of everything.

    1898

    Life in Brekke

Lasse Tynning is born on the Tynning farm at Brekke in Sogn, where the family has lived for generations. Lasse took examen artium and trained as a gardener; Aashild became a teacher. They were second cousins from two neighbouring farms that had been marrying into each other for sixty years.

Standing from left: Hans Søgnen, Lars Tynning, Leif Oppedal, Gerhard Tynning, Lasse Tynning (in a hat, newspaper under his arm), Olav Underdal and Kristoffer Vikne. Seated from left: Sigrid Tynning, Lise Engesæter, Dagny Haugland, Aashild Haugland, Ingeborg Haugland and Ingrid Haugland. Lasse and Aashild thus appear in the same picture years before they married. The archive dates it c. 1925, but Lasse's sister Sigrid died in May 1923, so it must be older.

Both Lasse Tynning and Aashild Haugland are in the picture, with six of her siblings, but the archive has not recorded who is who. The local history book notes that sprat fishermen with Sunday off would walk up to the summer farm to meet the dairymaids.

Local public service

Eidanger Municipal Council 1960–1963

Lasse Tynning and his son Torstein Tynning both served on Eidanger Municipal Council from 1960 to 1963. The photograph shows the full council at a time when Eidanger was still an independent municipality, before its merger with Porsgrunn in 1964.

For the Tynning family, the photograph also speaks of a strong connection to the local community. Lasse worked as a farmer and horticulturist in the Porsgrunn area, while Torstein later continued his own public service.

In the photograph, T. Tynning stands in the back row, while L. Tynning stands in the row in front.
